A Czech pouring game

Pour beer like a real Czech tapster.

Tilt the glass, open the tap, build the foam. Tapster teaches you the craft of the Czech výčepní one pour at a time and scores each glass from 0 to 100.

18+For adults of legal drinking age. The game scores your pouring and nothing else.

A hladinka being poured A half-litre glass is held tilted under the tap so the beer runs down its wall. The glass straightens, the stream builds a dense head of foam, the tap closes and the foam settles about three fingers deep. 0,5 l
Why we made it

We love beer, so we wanted to learn to pour it too.

We're Code Growers, a software company from Pardubice. Anyone can drink a good hladinka. Pouring one takes a tapster who reads the foam and closes the tap at the right moment.

You can't pick that up from a video, and few pubs will let you practise behind the bar. So we wrote a foam simulation and built a game on top of it. You pour, Tapster shows you what went wrong, and you go again until the head looks like whipped cream.

The four pours

One beer, four ways to pour it.

In a Czech pub, the pour counts as much as the keg. Foam keeps the beer fresh and holds the aroma, and one look at it tells you whether the tapster knows the job.

  • Hladinka: beer topped with about three fingers of foam, right up to the rim
    The standard

    Hladinka

    The everyday Czech pour.

    Foam
about three fingers, dense and wet
    Fill
    right to the rim

Tilt, let the beer run down the wall, straighten so the stream builds the head, and close the tap in one smooth pull. Good foam looks like whipped cream.

  • Šnyt: two parts beer, three parts foam, one part empty glass
    The small one

    Šnyt

    Looks unfinished, on purpose.

    Ratio
    2 parts beer : 3 parts foam : 1 part empty

You get a smaller drink under a big creamy head, and the top of the glass stays empty. Order one when you want a taste, or when you're calling it a night.

  • Mlíko: the glass is almost all foam with a little beer at the bottom
    The sweet one

    Mlíko

    Czech for “milk”.

    Foam
almost the whole glass, wet and fine
    Beer
just a little at the bottom

Open the tap a crack and the beer comes out as fine, wet foam. Serve it straight away, while the foam is sweet and creamy.

  • Čochtan: beer filled to the top with almost no foam and a few big bubbles
    The wrong one

    Čochtan

    The pour nobody orders.

    Foam
    almost none, just big bubbles

Flat beer with no head. The game has you pour one on purpose, so you'll spot it at a glance and keep it off the bar.

Learn, then master

Nine chapters, from rinsing the glass to pouring by feel.

Each chapter opens with a short explainer from the tapster. If you know your way around a tap, skip it. You pour with hints first, then without them.

  1. The glassRinse, tilt and pour your first half-litre.
  2. HladinkaTilt, straighten, one pull, serve.
  3. Reading the foamWet foam, dry foam, and when it settles.
  4. ŠnytClose early and leave room for the head.
  5. MlíkoBarely open the tap and pour onto the surface.
  6. GlasswareSix glasses, each poured its own way.
  7. Bad conditionsWarm kegs, dirty glasses and the čochtan.
  8. Speed & serviceA queue of orders and a ticking clock.
  9. Gyro masteryAll the pours by feel, with tight tolerances.

The first two chapters are free, hladinka included. The Tapster licence opens the other seven for about the price of a beer.

What it costs

Everything in Tapster costs about one beer.

The first two chapters are free, hladinka included. Anything you buy costs about as much as a half-litre in a Czech pub, and you pay for it once.

One beer

Tapster licence

Opens chapters three to nine for good, from šnyt and mlíko to the Friday queue against the clock.

One beer each

Bar packs

A new backdrop and tap handle for your bar. There are three so far: the beer garden, the brewery and the cellar. They change how your bar looks and leave your scores alone.

That beer money goes back into Tapster: more beer brands to pour and new things to do in the game. You won't find ads or subscriptions.

Your phone is the glass

Tilt it or drag it. Both count.

Tilt (gyro)

Hold your phone like the glass and tilt it under the tap. It feels close to a real tap.

Drag (manual)

Set the angle of the glass with your thumb. It's precise and works on any phone, sofa included.

Neither mode is the easy one. Each has its own scores and leaderboards, so you compete with people who pour the way you do.

18+Drink responsibly.

Tapster is for adults of legal drinking age. The game scores how you pour and gives nothing for drinking. You don't need a real beer to play.

All beers and breweries in the game are invented. Tapster isn't affiliated with any brewery.
